On the afternoon of November 6, 2025, Thuyloi University held a working session with a delegation from Ajou University (Republic of Korea) and the Korean Association of Science and Technology Businessmen (KASTAB) to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the semiconductor field.
Attending the meeting on behalf of Thuyloi University, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, President of the University, chaired the session, together with representatives from the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, the Department of Training, and the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Representing the Korean partners were Prof. Dr. Lee Beom-jae, President of KASTAB and Professor of Business Administration at Ajou University; Prof. Dr. Lee Jong-wook, President of the Semiconductor Process Technology Academy of Korea (SPTA) and Professor of Electronic Engineering at Ajou University, along with leaders of KASTAB Vietnam.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Ajou University delegation to visit and work with Thuyloi University. He introduced the University’s training objectives and development strategies in collaboration with partners in the context of rapid technological advancement, in line with the Government’s policy of promoting science, technology, and innovation. He emphasized that the meeting provided a foundation for in-depth discussions toward effective cooperation not only in the semiconductor field but also with potential expansion into other joint research areas such as materials science, information technology, and advanced engineering disciplines.

In his exchange with the University, Prof. Dr. Lee Beom-jae, President of KASTAB, provided an overview of the historical development of the global semiconductor industry, the role of the Republic of Korea in the global semiconductor supply chain, and the opportunities for Vietnam to gradually engage in this field. He noted that Korea’s success in the semiconductor industry is the result of strategic vision, long-term investment, infrastructure development, human resource training, and international cooperation. With its advantage of a young and dynamic workforce, Vietnam can learn from this development model to build a solid foundation for the semiconductor industry in the future.

Prof. Dr. Lee Jong-wook, a leading expert in semiconductor engineering and Director of the Semiconductor Process Technology Academy (SPTA), stated that Ajou University is ready to collaborate with Thuyloi University in implementing highly practice-oriented training programs, flexibly designed to suit Vietnamese students. Students will have opportunities to access manufacturing processes and directly undertake internships at SPTA’s research and production facilities, thereby gaining hands-on experience and essential professional skills for the semiconductor industry.
Ajou University is currently one of the leading universities in Korea, established in 1973 in Suwon City. The University is renowned for its strengths in engineering, information technology, natural sciences, and business administration. Ajou maintains close partnerships with major corporations such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG, and Hyundai, and is recognized among Korea’s leading innovative universities with a strong orientation toward applied research and international cooperation.

Representing the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duc Dai expressed his desire to cooperate with experts from Ajou University as well as KASTAB and SPTA in developing training and research programs in the fields of semiconductors and materials science, particularly through support for equipment, curricula, and faculty and student exchanges. The Faculty expects that through this cooperation, a specialized semiconductor training program will gradually be established at Thuyloi University, contributing to meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in areas of strong interest to the Government and industry.

Ms. Dinh Me Linh, Chair of KASTAB Vietnam, also stated that KASTAB and Ajou University are eager to contribute to education and human resource development in the semiconductor sector in Vietnam. KASTAB will serve as an important bridge connecting Korean enterprises and organizations with Vietnamese universities, while also supporting the implementation of technology transfer activities and research cooperation.

All sides agreed to continue discussions to develop a concrete cooperation plan in the near future, focusing on areas such as the design of short-term and long-term training programs in semiconductor technology; cooperation in research and development in integrated circuits, advanced materials, and automation; and the establishment of a collaborative network among the parties toward the development of a semiconductor training and research center in Vietnam. The parties expressed their desire to soon implement specific activities, aiming to jointly contribute to the development of human resources and research capacity in the semiconductor field—one of the key technologies of the digital era.
