During its working visit to attend the 20th ASEA-UNINET Plenary Conference in Brescia, Italy, Thuyloi University organized a ceremony to present the “Thuyloi’s Family” Medal to Professor Roberto Ranzi in recognition of his longstanding cooperation and contributions to the university.

On behalf of Thuyloi University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai presented the certificate and medal to Prof. Ranzi – Vice Rector of the University of Brescia, a dedicated and compassionate scholar who has greatly supported Thuyloi University students and contributed to the training of generations of lecturers and researchers, including faculty and department leaders, over the past 20 years.

Prof. Ranzi expressed his honor in receiving this special award, emphasizing its meaning as a recognition for distinguished scientists and close partners who have significantly contributed to Thuyloi University and to his personal collaborations with the institution.

Professor Roberto Ranzi is a leading international expert in hydrology and water resources engineering, currently serving as Vice Rector for International Affairs at the University of Brescia. He has published over 100 scientific papers in prestigious international journals. Renowned globally in his field, he is particularly devoted to mentoring Vietnamese postgraduate students. His close, modest, and supportive approach has earned him deep respect and affection from Thuyloi University’s leadership and generations of students.
Since 2002, Prof. Ranzi has taught and supervised many Vietnamese Master’s and PhD students, especially from Thuyloi University. He has delivered lectures in advanced programs jointly developed with Italian partners. To date, he has successfully supervised eight PhD students from Thuyloi University who studied at Politecnico di Milano and the University of Brescia. Many now hold key academic leadership positions at Thuyloi University, including:
- Prof. Dr. Le Van Chin – Dean of the Faculty of Water Resources Engineering, Director of the Institute of Water Resources Engineering.
- Prof. Dr. Hoang Thanh Tung – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Water Resources Engineering
- Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – Vice Director of the Institute of Water Resources Engineering, former Head of the Department of Academic and Postgraduate Training (now Department of Academic Affairs).
- Prof. Dr. Ngo Le An – Head of Division of Hydrology and Climate Change
On behalf of the University of Brescia, Professor Ranzi also awarded the Master’s degree in International Business Administration to Lecturer Hoang Thi Thu Thoa – Division of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics and Management. (At that ceremony, Prof. Dr. Trinh Minh Thu, former President of Thuyloi University, expressed his gratitude to the University of Brescia and to Professor Ranzi for their contributions to the training of highly qualified staff and faculty members for TLU.)
He has also participated in many events organized by Thuyloi University: the 60th and 65th anniversary celebrations; most recently, he appeared in the video commemorating the 65th anniversary of Thuyloi University; he has also actively supported and coordinated with TLU in organizing a number of academic and professional exchange activities during this occasion.
Through discussions, Professor Ranzi has expressed his great joy in having maintained long-term cooperation with Thuyloi University since 2002–2003. He shared that many Vietnamese doctoral students under his supervision have now become associate professors, PhDs, and hold key positions. He hopes that in the future, more Vietnamese students will achieve success and grow into reputable scientists and lecturers.
“Simple and devoted” – these are the words often used to describe Professor Ranzi, a scholar closely connected to the mission of training high-quality human resources at Thuyloi University. He has always been regarded as a “great teacher,” accompanying generations of Thuyloi students in their academic journey and scientific research.
