At the opening of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai, Vice President of Thuyloi University, extended a respectful welcome to the Ehime Prefecture delegation and provided an overview of the University, emphasizing its strong reputation in education, scientific research, and community service. He also affirmed that the University highly values international cooperation, particularly with Japanese partners with whom many effective collaborative programs have been implemented. Accordingly, with this business delegation, the University expressed its desire to further expand cooperation in developing joint research, training, and technology application projects.

In response, Mr. Taisei Nakano expressed his sincere thanks to the University for the thoughtful and well-organized reception of the delegation. He introduced several prominent Ehime enterprises participating in the meeting, including SEKI Co., specializing in paper manufacturing and high-tech printing, and Daishin Construction Co., operating in the construction and engineering sector.
In addition, he shared insights into Japan’s aging population, which has led to a growing demand for foreign labor. Vietnamese workers in Ehime account for a significant proportion and are highly regarded for their work ethic and capabilities. Therefore, he emphasized the desire to expand international cooperation and share experiences with Vietnam, particularly as Vietnam is developing rapidly while also facing challenges related to the environment, climate change, and natural disasters, issues that Japan has previously encountered and addressed.

Discussing pressing issues such as environmental protection and disaster prevention, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai shared information on the University’s ongoing projects, including cooperation with Hai Phong City on environmental treatment, disaster warning and prevention, as well as the SATREPS project on early warning systems for landslides and debris flows. Flooding and landslides were highlighted as major challenges that the University is actively researching in order to identify solutions to mitigate their impacts.

Accompanying the business delegation was Prof. Mizogami Tatsuya from Matsuyama University, a prominent private university located in the capital city of Ehime Prefecture, with a history of more than 100 years and a vision to develop into a comprehensive university. The professor noted that Matsuyama University has established international cooperation with many universities worldwide but has not yet partnered with any higher education institution in Vietnam. He therefore expressed a strong desire to establish educational cooperation with Thuyloi University, opening up opportunities for academic exchange and joint research.

During the technical discussion session, representatives of Ehime enterprises, including Shikoku Construction Co. (specializing in post-disaster reconstruction and recovery) and Daiki-Axis Co. (specializing in wastewater treatment systems), discussed with the University’s leadership potential cooperation in training and research on shared issues related to environmental protection and disaster prevention, as well as career orientation for students. These exchanges laid the foundation for shaping concrete directions of cooperation, linking research, education, and industrial practice in the future.

At the conclusion of the working session, both sides assessed the meeting as an important opportunity to open the way for comprehensive cooperation between Thuyloi University and enterprises from Ehime Prefecture. The meeting not only laid the groundwork for research projects, technology application, and high-quality human resource training, but also contributed to addressing environmental and disaster-related challenges and promoting sustainable development in Vietnam. At the same time, it created opportunities for employment and study for students, and enhanced managerial and technical capacities for both sides.
