Introduction

The Urban Infrastructure Construction and Management Program in Infrastructure Engineering provides students with fundamental and professional knowledge for the planning, design, construction, supervision, operation and management of urban technical infrastructure.

The curriculum integrates urban planning, site engineering, transportation infrastructure, water supply and drainage, urban green spaces and lighting, civil and public works, construction economics, infrastructure project management, pumping stations, GIS and remote sensing, and applied engineering informatics.

Through engineering coursework, design projects, surveying and professional practice, field-oriented learning, a graduation internship and a graduation project, students develop the technical, analytical, management and teamwork skills required to address practical challenges in urban and industrial-zone infrastructure.

Highlights

  • Integrated education covering urban planning, design, construction, supervision, operation and management of urban infrastructure.
  • Broad technical foundation spanning transportation, water supply and drainage, site engineering, civil and public works, green spaces and urban lighting.
  • Practice-oriented training through surveying practice, engineering design projects, professional courses, a graduation internship and a graduation project.
  • Application of modern engineering tools, including AutoCAD, road-design software, structural-analysis software, GIS and remote sensing.
  • Strong emphasis on infrastructure project management, construction economics, data analysis, communication, teamwork and professional responsibility.
  • Flexible career pathways in government agencies, engineering consulting and design, construction, project management, infrastructure operation, research and higher education.

Credits

The program comprises 155 credits. The curriculum progresses from general education and engineering fundamentals to specialized urban infrastructure courses, professional practice and graduation work. Students must accumulate the required 155 credits to be eligible for graduation.

Duration

The standard duration of the program is 4.5 years (9 semesters). The study plan progresses from general education and fundamental engineering sciences to discipline-specific and specialized courses, followed by a graduation internship and graduation project.

Program Objectives

The program aims to educate Infrastructure Engineers with the knowledge, skills, professional ethics and capacity to plan, design, construct, operate and manage urban infrastructure and infrastructure projects in response to societal needs.

  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences, computing and foreign languages to engineering study and professional practice.
  • Develop specialized knowledge of urban infrastructure and the ability to formulate ideas and undertake the planning, design, construction and operation of technical infrastructure works.
  • Plan, design, construct, supervise and manage urban infrastructure projects, and participate in operation management, technical review, appraisal and construction-economics activities.
  • Identify and analyze urban infrastructure problems, process relevant survey and technical data, and propose appropriate solutions to improve infrastructure quality.
  • Communicate effectively, work independently and in teams, and contribute in multidisciplinary, multicultural and international working environments.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics, integrity, responsibility, self-directed development and commitment to lifelong learning.

Career Prospects

Graduates are equipped with a broad foundation in the construction and management of urban and industrial-zone infrastructure. They may work in:

  • Government and public-sector agencies responsible for urban planning, construction, transportation, water supply and drainage, and other technical infrastructure.
  • Engineering consulting and design companies involved in urban planning, infrastructure design, technical appraisal and project consultancy.
  • Construction contractors and companies undertaking urban, transportation, civil and technical infrastructure projects.
  • Project management, construction supervision, infrastructure operation and maintenance organizations serving urban areas and industrial zones.
  • Research institutes, universities and other education and research organizations in construction and infrastructure engineering.
  • Foreign-invested enterprises and international organizations, as well as engineering positions abroad.

Graduates may also pursue master’s and doctoral studies in Infrastructure Engineering and related fields such as Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Civil Engineering at universities in Vietnam and abroad.
